Geocache Description:

Peace at Last!! MTRP by Moonlight!

Come join us for a barbecue on May 12th followed by night caching to the Fortunas and beyond.

The generals of both warring factions have agreed to a cease fire so that we may enjoy a barbecue without fear of being caught in crossfire. The generals have accepted our invitation to attend but they are forbidden from recruting; this is their war, not ours! Don your military camo-gear and come enjoy the fun.

Our reserved sites are #38 and #40 at the published coords inside the Kumeyaay Campground; but you will have to park at the outside-24/7 parking lot located at N32 50.334 W117 02.024. We have the site beginning at 2p, but the event begins when the grill arrives, around 6 p’ish at site #40. If you arrive sooner, you may need to know the reservation is under Chuy's name - Jesus Robles. We start the hike around 8p. The hike is optional and not a requirement to claim the Event "find".

What we'll provide: barbecue; hot dogs; carne asada; and all the related fixing's.

What you'll provide: your favorite non-alcoholic beverage; a lawn chair; any food item you would like us to barbecue for you; and a potluck dessert dish.

What you should bring for the hike: flashlight (we also recommend a headlamp); hiking stick; good hiking shoes; bug repellent; a light-duty jacket; water; FRS radio, and extra batteries for your GPS and flashlight. The terrain rating for the hike is rated 4-stars for length (about 10-13 miles total); ascents/descents; and very loose terrain in certain areas. Of course, there will be several opportunities to cut the hike short.

Please read the campground rules. Essentially, no alcohol; no firearms; no glass containers; and keep the noise level down.

The reservation required a two-day purchase; so, if anyone is interested in camping overnight, talk to Chuy!; you are allowed six persons per night per site.

In the coming weeks, we'll be posting a map with a general hiking route and updated information.

Click for San Diego, California Forecast Dogs: Only one dog is allowed per site overnight, but visiting dogs (and non-dog visitors) are permitted until 8p.

Added bonus: the San Diego Astronomy Association will be holding a Star Party at the campground parking lot, about 400 feet east of our site, from dusk to 10p. They will allow the public to view the sky with their telescopes at no charge.

Hike Update (May 8, 2006): I biked the route north of the 52, and, as a result of visiting most of these caches, I strongly (almost adamantly) suggest these cachers wear pants (and consider a long-sleeve shirt); apply generous portions of bug repellent; and bring a hiking stick. I ran into high grass, a rattlesnake, ticks, and poison oak; I departed the area with only a few gnat/mosquito bites on my upper forearms where I missed with the bug repellent. Otherwise, the ride was a blast and I can't wait to hike it out with you folks. - Chuy!

Upon request, I can provide the following files:
A gpx file, for PDA users as well as EasyGPS and Mapsource users, but it don't contain tracks;
A gdb file that includes tracks for Garmin/MapSource users; and
A kmz file that also includes tracks for Google Earth users.
