This is a Nano Cache located at the former Camp Portaferry Boy Scout Camp. You may park at N 44° 13.267', W 075° 11.604'. Please do not pass through the second gate as the land is now owned by a local hunting club.
Sunset on Portaferry Lake
Camp Portaferry, formerly owned by Hiawatha Seaway Council, consisted of 400+ choice acres on the northwest border of the Adirondack Park in Pitcairn, NY. The camp sat on the shore of Lake Portaferry and had one of the prettiest views in the Adirondack's from its dining hall.
It was originally part of the great McComb's Purchase. On this land, moccasined feet walked, followed by the French settlers. Many moved on. One of the men who stayed was from Ireland. He acquired the land around the lake and named it Portaferry after a town in Northern Ireland located between Lake Strangford and the Irish Sea. Thus, the camp was named Camp Portaferry.
From 1947 to 2006 many Boy Scouts have passed through the gateways of Camp Portaferry for a fun filled week at camp. This was BobbyHill295's favorite Scout Camp so I offered him the chance to place his first ever geocache there. We hope you like it. You will need to bring a pencil to sign the log.
