(#1 Bay Trail) Oyster Cove Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Krypton: As there's been no response to my previous note, I assume that the cache is not going to be repaired or replaced, so I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us, and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

A Trip Through South San Francisco History

This is the first of my caches along the San Francisco Bay Trail. The Bay Trail is an ongoing project of the Association of Bay Area Governments (visit link) ) Details, photos, and maps can be found at: (visit link)

The Oyster Cove cache takes you to a little known part of South San Francisco history. South San Francisco has been known as The Industrial City since the early 20th century. Along this part of the trail stood the huge shipbuilding operation of the Western Pipe and Steel Company. In this very location they built and launched 48 ships. Several of these were the famed Liberty Ships of World War II. If you visit at low tide, you can see remnants of the launching ways and imagine the hustle and bustle and noise of the industry. These buildings have been replaced by hotels, biotech, and high tech industries.

There are several places to park. Bring your bike, dogs, kids and so on. The trail is level all the way. As you search for the cache, a cammoed peanut container, you will be treated to beautiful vistas, wild and non-wild flowers, birds, and other wildlife.
