Geocache Description:

Everyone in the Magic Valley has heard of Camp Hunt, but up until a few weeks ago I'd never heard of a POW camp in Paul named Camp Rupert. It was built in 1943 but the first prisoners, about 500 Italians, never arrived until May of 1944. In the fall of that year, German POW's replaced them. While there, they worked for the area farmers and the Amalgamated Sugar Company in which the government pay .60 cents an hour for the prisoners labor. In turn the government paid the prisoners .80 cents a day. The camp was in use until May of 1946 in which it was closed down. It was located where A&B irrigation now is, although no markers or signs mark the spot. This is a quick cache placed a little south and east of the former camp to draw attention to a little known Mini-Cassia history. It is a small cache with no room for trades and bring a writing stick with you.
