Geocache Description:

Cache at Bell Slough WMA Nature Trail

Don't let Bell Slough's name fool you--it's not a swamp. Bell Slough is the name of the water course that flows through this WMA, which offers a great taste of the outdoors just minutes from Little Rock. Bell Slough WMA is bordered by Lake Conway, Grassy Lake, Palarm Creek, and Clifton Mountain. A 2.5 mile interpretive nature trail takes you on a tour of Bell Slough WMA's diverse topography, flora, and fauna. The trail features numerous interpretive signs, viewing blinds, and even a photo blind. You'll have an opportunity to see flooded areas, bottomland hardwoods, and low Ouachita ridge tops, and learn about the biodiversity of the Arkansas River valley. Wildlife viewing ranges from deer and turkey to waterfowl, birds, and small game. The trail is well marked and maintained.

To reach Bell Slough WMA, take the Mayflower exit and go south on Ark. 365. A sign for the turn at Grassy Lake Road is marked on the highway. The waypoint below indicates the parking area and trailhead.

Hunting is allowed on Bell Slough WMA, but firearms are only allowed for small game to reduce any user conflicts. Deer and turkey hunting is archery only, and geocachers shouldn't have any trouble, particularly out of season. The trail is regularly used for hiking.

NOTE: The entrance to this area can flood in high water conditions.
