Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden above the Historic Oat Hill Mine Wagon Road that winds its way up from Calistoga 4.5 miles to the remnants of Karl Holm's homestead. As you hike up the old rough road you can still see where the wagon wheels carved ruts into the rock.

Around 1990, this section of the trail was aquired to connect the Palisades Trail which continues all the way to HWY 29 (Robert Lewis Stevenson State Park).

There's Poison Oak everywhere, but if you stay on the trail, it should not be an obstacle whatsoever. Enjoy the wildlife, wildflowers, history, and most of all, the quietness of pure nature.

Start your hike from either Calistoga (9 miles RT with a 2000' climb) or from the Table Rock trail with a car at each trailhead. (10.2 miles one way with a 2000' descent)

Please use caution in rattlesnake country.
