Geocache Description:

This cache is located at Klondike Iowa at the Big Sioux river access. It can be accessed from either the Iowa side or the South Dakota side. From the South Dakota side you will have to walk across the historic Klondike bridge. It is also the site of the historic pioneer grist mill, mill dam and mill pond. Some of the machinery of the mill are still visable on the Iowa side. It was also the site of a small placer mining operation recovering gold from river gravels in the early 1900s – Iowa’s only known commercial gold mining venture. There are usally a lot of people fishing in the area so use caution when finding and replacing the cache. Also if you have your children along be sure to keep a close eye on them. The river banks are steep and rocky and the rocks can be slick if wet.
