Please note driving on the old airfield is forbidden by the land owner.
Bit of history for you:- 4/44 to 8/45, 848th, 849th, 850th and 851st Bombardment Squadrons of the 490th Bombardment Group (Heavy) with B-24 Liberators, 8/44 converted to the B-17 Flying Fortress. Flew 158 missions losing 22 aircraft, the lowest loss rate of all the 8th Bomb Groups. The cache is hidden on part of the old Airfield on A footpath from Eye were there is plenty of parking.
