Geocache Description:

A small cache located at the Potato Hills Vista area of the Talimena Scenic Drive.

Geologically speaking, the Ouachita Mountains where the Talimena Drive runs is rather old. Evidence of this is the rounded off nature of the mountains themselves (not many sharp, craggy formations more common out West), and well developed timber and flora. From this vista, in the distance, you can see the Potato Hills, which take their name from their resemblance to the way potatoes were stored in days gone by. Some geologists have said that these hills are somehow older than the Ouachita Mountains themselves. We're not sure about this, but much good information is available on the web.
What we do know, however, is that this is another great place along the Talimena Drive to place a cache. So we added this little fellow to the lineup of caches along the #1 Highway. It's a small container, so you'll need to bring a pen, but no significant hiking is required.
