The cache is a Lock-n-Lock food storage container placed under a rock. The peak itself has a rock cairn and USGS marker. The cache is located near the peak of Mt. Eagle. The trail is well maintained by VI Bikes and Trails. To reach the trailhead, take Route 73, connecting Mon Bijoux with La Vallee, and turn West on Route 78, Scenic Drive. Drive about 1.4 mile to the crest of the ridge. Recommended to park at "Cannan Ridge" columns and hike to the parking area, about 1 mile uphill.
27-Nov-2023. You will need 4WD and a lifted suspension to reach the parking area as the road is rutted and washed out.
Park in the wide grassy area. Walk to the trailhead on the road to the west, about 100 yds. Follow the trail to the top of Mt Eagle to find the cache. Continue past the peak for beautiful views of St Croix's north shore and neighboring islands.
Caution: do not drive west on Scenic drive past the parking area. A landslide in Sept/Oct 2017 (Hurricane Maria rains and more) has blocked the road. The road is passable on foot so you can hike west to Route 69, The Beast. (5 km round trip).
