ALERT: On June 15th, 2006 we found out that there is a family of bears living in this area. PLEASE USE CAUTION when visiting this cache. The Black Diamond Police suggest if you are walking these trails, make a lot of noise so that they are sure to hear you. Take extra caution with young kids and pets. Good luck!
On a recent walk from our neighborhood, down the road to Ravensdale, I ran out of water. I decided to take a short-cut back to our house through the woods. Of course I wanted to make sure my husband knew where to look for me, considering I might get lost or mauled by a rabid bear. With my water bottle dry, I didn’t know what to do but leave the empty bottle for my sweetie to find, along with a message of where to look for me next.
I hadn’t done much exploring in this forest, forgot my GPSr and before I knew it, I found myself very lost. I tried to keep myself from becoming too flustered and started to panic when it started getting dark. I could hear twigs snapping and coyotes howling in the not-to-far distance. I knew my sweetie would come looking for me eventually, but would he know where to look? I shouldn’t have left the road. I hadn’t stocked my backpack well and had no food or supplies.
I stumbled and staggered along. Hungry and cold, I needed something to take my mind off of things. I dug through my backpack and found a bottle of my favorite microbrew. Wow! What luck! How did this get in here?? Yahoo!! This would keep my spirits high for awhile. Needless to say, the beer put me to sleep. I fell asleep on the forest floor.
I awoke to sunlight streaming through the trees. I survived the night alone – in the forest. I wasn’t eaten by coyotes! This was reason to celebrate. I kept walking, hoping to find my way out. I left another note in the beer bottle of my intended direction.
Around the bend, who would have believed it… a STARBUCKS! Man, they are everywhere! No one was around, just a tiny little stand. Although a “Venti non-fat Caramel Macchiato” sounded perfect right then I wouldn’t pretend to be a barista! I was lucky to have found a premade “Frappachino” drink. Cool, another bottle to leave a note!
After hours of wandering around, pumped up on caffeine, I found a really nice place to rest. I must have fallen asleep, because I awoke to someone nudging me. I opened my eyes and was very delighted to see my sweetie staring at me with a huge smile and our GPSr! He said the notes really helped him find me! We celebrated and toasted to this great adventure!
Enjoy this nice stroll in the woods – but be prepared –and don’t get lost! Leave your favorite “toast” in the log/posting. Enjoy our favorite beverages along the way!
The posted coordinates will take you to the parking area. The first bottle can be found at N47 19.991 W121 59.778. Follow the directions from there. There are 4 total waypoints. The 4th waypoint is the final. Hike is approximately 1.7 miles roundtrip on fairly flat trails - no bush-whacking required. We added the "don't do at night" attribute because we weren't kidding about the coyotes and bears. During the day, you're fine. Sats can be spotty back in these woods, so use the clues if you need to. Also, please be careful to secure the log for the final so that others may easily remove it from it's home.
Happy caching!!!
