Geocache Description:

This was placed with the approval of the City of Pottsville and the parking authority! It is used as a parking lot on weekdays and is mostly empty on weekends! So IS handicapped accessible!

This was in the 1860's the site of the frieght station for the READING RAILROAD up until 1960ish! The newly reburbished wooden frieght station can be seen from the cache to the NW. From 1960-1980 it was used as the cities rail link to Philadelphia and other points! There never was a real station just a platform, where I remember a steam engine in early 60's pulled in one night and my pop-pop took me to see it! Also Reading used F7's on weekdays for passenger service and RDC's on weekends!
The Original station was 1500 ft north of this spot and was pretty large had 15 service tracks into station and was of victorian design! A modern office building sits on the spot now!
Way back 1930's? the ringling Bros. circus train used to unload from this spot and parade the animals and people 16 blocks to the circus grounds,Now a baseball field at 16th street!
I was there for the very last train to leave Pottsville without much fanfare or people; No one was interested at the time! It was about 5:45pm and they(SEPTA took over in the 70's) had the last 7 remaining READING RDC's for the last run to Reading & Philly!
Now the City is bring back the rails but, about 700 Feet to the south behind KFC for hopefully passenger service again or at least Excursion trips! Suppossed to build a transportation hub for local buses and National buses and the new rail link! it's been about 5 years in the making now and I saw architechs drawings and they were very well laid out and planned!
It's a permantely marked red lidded small tupperware container ,Log sheet, and a stay dry plastic little barrel! Please bring your own pen! Return well! Many muggles and skidders!

Looking south from cache, you'll see a white column with a guy on top! That's "STANDING TALL" Virtual.
