Calling Cadence Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

4FunCampers: Am told the new coordinates are too far so we need to archive this one and try to get a new one published for the new coordinates. I think we'll wait a while before submitting a new one in case someone else wants to put a cache here.

Geocache Description:

Trailhead parking Coordinates N 48 degrees 26.558 and W122 degrees 18.436

This is a nice little walking trail in Mount Vernon. It's a nice smooth trail and about a half mile walk to the cache. Now that the family is geocaching, we are taking more hikes/walks than ever before and I'm loving it! The cache is an ammo can dedicated to those in the military in appreciation of all they do for the country. A salute to you!

I come from a military family (mainly Air Force) and I myself was in the Army, though I never saw active duty. Growing up, my family often sang songs while going on a several hour hike in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We never called cadence, but it does really help pass the time when on a long road march. I have found myself calling cadence to my children when taking them on a hike and they start to whine. I have also found it very helpful when trying to walk a group of high energy boy scouts from point A to point B. The kids quickly settle down, enjoy echoing the cadence, we often make up our own songs, and they think it's cool! It really is rather fun!

Cadence is called to a tune, the troops echo back the same words, all in time with their marching, jogging, or whatever. Really takes one's mind off their aches and pains, gets a rhythm going, and the miles seem to disappear. This is an easy walk, no Heartbreak, Misery, or Agony hills (Fort Knox, KY). I have a hard time remembering the cadences (too many years ago!) and thought it would be fun for those of you that know cadences to share them in your logs. Only clean ones, folks, remember this is a family thing and I will delete something I don't consider family friendly. You can always change a word here or there to clean it up. Make up your own cadences! I'll start off with one that I remember:

They say that in the Army, the pay is mighty fine. (echo at the end of each line)
They give you 100 dollars and take back 99.

Chorus: AWOL I want to go
but they won't let me go home (dragged out) HEY!

They say that in the Army, the coffee is mighty fine.
It looks like muddy water and tastes like turpentine.
(Chorus)
They say that in the Army, the chow is mighty fine.
A chicken jumped off the table and started marking time.
(Chorus)
They say that in the Army, the bread is mighty fine.
A roll fell off the table and killed a friend of mine.
(Chorus)
They say that in the Army, the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller and march like Frankenstein.
(Chorus)
They say that in the Army, the clothes are mighty fine.
Well me and my best buddy can both fit into mine.
(Chorus)

Now get out there, form up your troops, and head out to this cache. Or simply enjoy a nice stroll and most of all, enjoy yourselves!
