Choices Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

ChileHead: Well I really like this cache, but it's been disabled for a while and I'm not likely to get to it anytime soon. Many of the waypoints are not legible, and I don't want to replace them with the same style, so I'm going to archive this.

The choices I made for waypoints were apparently not the best, but I hope to come up with a more permanent solution (the other caches I hid with these washers are also having problems.) If I come up with a better way, I'll get it unarchived and in play again.

Until then, this area is open for placing new caches.

Geocache Description:

This cache is all about choices: make the right ones, finish quickly - make the wrong ones, finish not so quickly!

Posted park hours are 8am - 10pm. There is a gate at the entrance, but I don't know when or if it is ever closed.

Life is full of important choices:

  • do I get up early for the FTF?
  • do I take a long lunch for a cache hunt and work late to make up for the time?
  • what kind of beer should I have with lunch?
  • do I spend my vacation day with the family or go caching?
  • what kind of beer should I have with breakfast?
  • should I order those wings mild, medium, hot or extra hot (well, duh!)?
  • it's 1am and raining and a new cache was published - what should I do?

This cache is all about choices too!   Each waypoint along the way will have 1, 2, 3 or 4 sets of coordinates to other waypoints in the park.  At each waypoint you have some choices:
  • find a set of coordinates and move on
  • keep looking for additional coordinates (but there may not be any more, or there may be more than 1 more set!)
  • if you found multiple sets, decide which one to go to
  • you've collected a bunch of coords and are still finding more, decide if you want to back track and take a different path

Some helpful guidelines:
  • Once you find the first waypoint, you'll know what you're looking for the rest of the time. All waypoints are of the same type.
  • There is a lot of water in the area.  You do not need to stray into the swamp to find any of the waypoints.  Some areas may be a bit mucky at times, so boots should be worn just in case (but I planted the cache with sandals and shorts.)
  • There are shortcuts - each path through this cache is a different length.
  • I won't say what the minimum number of waypoints is required to find the cache.
  • Every set of coordinates takes you to another set of coordinates, or in a couple of cases, a marked "Sorry - go back"
  • There are loops.  You may find yourself directed back to a waypoint you were already at.   Find another set of coordinates at that site if you haven't already.
  • The coordinates at each site are of varying levels of difficulty to find, or may be right next to each other.
  • Harder waypoints might lead you through a shorter path to the cache.  Or maybe not.
  • Please respect the posted signs. There is no reason to go beyond them. There is a nearby trail (orange) that has posted signs on both sides. The trail map says it is public, but the signs are deceiving. I did not hide any waypoints in that area just in case.

This cache is located in the White Brook Nature Area in Perinton. White Brook is a diverse natural site combining freshwater wetlands, upland meadow, wooded wetlands, ponds and a brook. Park includes hiking trails, frontage on the Erie Canal, community building and picnic shelter. The trail starts by the parking lot, and begins on a wooden boardwalk. While hiding this cache I came across deer, wild turkey, fox holes, ducks & geese, frogs and jumping fish of some sort.

There are 2 other nearby caches (at the time this was written) that are relatively easy finds. White Brook (my own) and White Brook Nature Area

There is a lammy for the FTF as well as a ChileHead gold coin. If you already have a gold coin, please consider leaving it for the second to find.

You may, if you wish, post the number of stops you had to make in order to find the cache. Please let me know if you think the difficulty/terrain is appropriate. This one is difficult to judge because of the variability.
