The Western Wheeled Scraper was used during the early days of Fairbanks to level roads and keep the mud of springtime at bay. Designed and built in Illinois by the Western Scraper Company, these horse drawn implements helped flattened the roads of the west before the advent of the automobile.
The Alaska Department of Transportation has a model on display that also hosts a micro-cache. Please be careful to replace the cache out of sight to all but geo-cachers. This cache should be accessible in all seasons although hunting after the 8:00 – 5:00 work hours might help with the nearby muggles who can watch out of their windows.
