Fairly steep walk on good path up through forest area reaching heathery summit with fantastic views of Marr.
Park at the Parking Waypoint, (N57 08.734 W002 47.034; NJ 525062), where there are laybys on both sides of the B9119, NE of Tarland. Walk south, downhill, towards a junction and 'Slack Cottage', taking care on this fast road. On the left you will see a sign for 'Woodland Walk'. There is also a basic info board here. There are no bins.
Follow the trail heading almost due south until you reach the shoulder plateau, (at N57 08.050 W002 47.477). Use this as Waypoint 1. You may notice your GPS telling you the cache is in a different direction, and after Waypoint 1 you do indeed turn round and head virtually north, following the larger track uphill through the heather. Continue on up to the summit and fantastic 360 degree views, taking in Clachnaben, Mt Keen, Lochnagar, Morven, and Bennachie to name just the biggest hills you can see. You probably won't come across anyone else on this quiet walk, but in case you do, the cache is located a short distance beyond and downhill from the summit which should take you out of view. Cache contains usual gubbins, plus a F2F bonus and a Wildlife Muggles Geocoin. It is a fairly small container, so small swaps only please.
Allow 50 minutes upwards to the cache. There are other paths on this hill and one looks tempting as a more direct route when heading back down, however this leads to a forestry area where work is going on at the moment, and a closed gate when there is no work - so I can't recommend this route. Many thanks to Forest Enterprise for granting permission to place this cache - this was granted about a year ago...I did say it may take a while for me to get round to it...
