Geocache Description:

This cache is located along the footpath that runs from Bramhope to Arthington. It is sited approximately half way between the northern portal to Bramhope railway tunnel and the former junction to Otley on the Leeds to Harrogate line.

It can be approached from either end. The walk down from Bramhope offers lovely views but is the steeper and longer approach. There is a pub at either end; the Fox and Hounds in Bramhope (N53.53.114, W1.37.425) or The Wharfedale in Arthington (N53.53.941, W1.36.384) and parking facilities are available adjacent to both pubs.

Bramhope tunnel can be viewed approximately 100m towards Bramhope from the cache. The tunnel is 2 miles and 243 yards long. It has a gradient of 1 in 94 down from Horsforth to Arthington and at its deepest point, it is some 290 feet below the surface. Further details can be found at (visit link) The line to Otley closed in 1965.

This is a small cache and, staying with the railway theme, it contains some trains and track to help you pass the time in case a real one doesn’t appear ! You may need to be wary of stinging nettles when retrieving the cache.
