Gustaf's bridge is the oldest remaining bridge in Gävle today.
The compressed stone arch bridge was built in 1770-1772 as a
replacement for a wooden bridge from the 1400:s at the same place,
which had been damaged by the spring flood of 1770.
The bridge was opened May 29 1772, the same day as Gustav III
was crowned king of Sweden - hence it's name. It carried the
traffic of the western route to and from Gävle for 187 years before
being replaced by a concrete bridge in 1959.
This cache is suitable during the winter too. ![](https://imgproxy.geocaching.com/381dc42881282d9a5b0c4a0f359fe15232192aa7?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.anlo.net%2Fcount.asp%3Fid%3DGC027)
