Myllargutstugo Traditional Cache

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

Myllargutstugo, easy terrain, winter accessible

Cabin at Myllargutstugo site
Myllargutstugo was built late in the 18th century, originally on Gunnarsrud under the master farm Ånås. An earlier name was Kåsa under Ryntveit.
This was where the socalled "Myllarguten" was born in 1801. Torgeir Augunsson, his real name, was thought to be the most recognized and gifted Hardanger fiddle player in the whole of Norway. Born in Telemark, he moved from Sauherad to Bø and Seljord, later further on to Åmotsdal and Grungedal.
He was "discovered" by Ole Bull who held three concerts with "Myllarguten" in Bergen in 1849. After that he also held concerts in Kristiania (Oslo) and Copenhagen. There was a period where his concerts got good reviews and he made good money off them. In contrast to the rest of his life which held hard work in poverty, moving from place to place. Which was typical for a miller's family.
Torgeir Augunsson died in Arabygdi in Rauland in 1872, but there need be mentioned that there have been discussions around his background and birth date without reaching a final answer.
