Geocache Description:

This is a regular geocache on the summit of Incinerator Ridge.

Last Sunday, May 14, the Tucson paper had an article about hiking on Incinerator Ridge. It looked interesting. Honestly I thought Incinerator Road was just a road to an incinerator. Who'd thunk they name a peak Incinerator? So after church we headed up the mountain.

Incinerator Road is up Catalina Highway between mile 19 and 20. Drive to the end of the road and park. There is a fairly new geocache there called "Dad & Son". It is well worth visiting and the views from the cache site are gorgeous. After visiting that cache go to the other side of the parking lot and find the trailhead map. Follow Knagge Trail along Incinerator Ridge. The trail is very easy. When you are up on the ridge, look toward Catalina Highway. We could see Rose Canyon Lake! And of course reminders of the Aspen fire when looking in that direction. As you are walking along you are walking through where it appears a last stand on the Bullock Fire was made. When you reach the summit area of the ridge, you'll realize that you are looking ahead at Incinerator Peak. It is this really nice looking "hill" with very very large boulders on it. We followed Knagge Trail all the way up Incinerator Summit. As you hike down off the summit on the ridge, the trail becomes not so nice. Quite rocky and slippery in places. I fell when a rock under my foot didn't like being stepped on. Incinerator Peak was a cool place to climb all over but we left the cache on the ridge where it would be an easier walk for most folks. Lots of great birds out there!

Cache container is an unusually shaped and colored Choxie tin from Target. Please recover it well with those rocks (that's another hint) so those bright colors don't show. Coordinated were taken about 3 feet from cache. We only had 30' accuracy. Take plenty of water please.
