goltzene: Well, the park system cleaned the fence line very well and consumed my cache. Since they knew it was there and still destroyed it and the fact that there may be no place to hide now I am going to archive this one.

Geocache Description:

   This cache is located on the back side of Eastwood Lake known as the "Dayton Hydrobowl".
It is a 8 x 6 lock-n-lock container.



Dayton Hydrobowl

     This mile-long, 185-acre lake was created as a by product of gravel mining operations by American Aggregate Corporation. It was completed in 1972 with two goals in mind: to provide water recreation opportunities for the community and to help protect the public water supply. It was operated by the City of Dayton until 1992 when it was leased to MetroParks. The lake is fed by water from the Mad River and is part of a system of ponds, lakes and lagoons located in the area that serve as artificial charge basins for the Dayton well fields found nearby. Water slowly filters from these bodies of water through layers of sand and gravel and helps restore ground water pumped out for public use. The Mad River provides natural recharging, but it alone cannot meet demands. In addition, the lake is a popular site for boating and fishing. The Ohio Division of Wildlife has periodically stocked the lake with walleye, largemouth bass, channel catfish and saugeye.

     This side of the lake is seldom used anymore. While I was researching and placing this cache I was amazed at the amount of wildlife inhabiting this area. I hope you enjoy the area as much as I have.

     Please do not attempt this cache from SR 4. It is emergency parking only and you will get ticketed. Also do not drive back the access road and obey all Metro Parks Organization rules and regulations. Above all have fun!
