The North Point picnic area provides a beautiful view from the
cliffs of the north basin of Lake Winnipeg. There are interpretive
signs illustrating various aspects of the region's wildlife and
geography. The air here is as fresh as it gets.
The area is used by park staff for organizing a number of family
park activities during the camping season. It has a picnic shelter,
fire places, tables and benches, basic washrooms and swings. It is
also fenced off from the cliffs, providing a safe environment to
run for those that need to. There are trails that parallel the
shoreline in both directions that have more challenging geography
to explore if you wish.
The cache is within the picnic area and is a very short walk
from the parking lot. The cache is a cammo'd tobacco container
about 3/4 of a liter in volume. It started with a number of Hecla
Island souvenirs and other small items. A logbook, pencils and
First To Find certificate are also provided.
While placing the cache and testing the coordinates, my
experience was that the GPS pointer reacted slower than normal as I
walked in that environment. So that might add a bit of a challenge
to the hunt.
