Mars from Earth (Hubble)
Mars is the fourth closest planet to the sun, ranging from
128-155 million miles away, and roughly half the diameter of the
Earth, 4200 miles. These distances are scaled for NWISSM as
described
here. More information about the real Mars can be found
on the web at links such as this. Some
speculate that Mars may have harbored life with similar biology to
that on earth, but now the atmosphere is too tenous, temperature
too cold, and water too scarce ---- probably. Still, the search
goes on. Check out the link to the two
rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, which continue to explore the
Martian surface long beyond their design lifetimes. Mars has two
small satellites, Deimos and Phobos, which are probably captured
asteroids.
The NWISSM-Mars cache is located in a quiet neighborhood park
down a long deadend road. You may be able to catch a glimpse of
NWISSM-Sol between the houses along the lake from the cache site,
but better if you walk down towards the point keeping on the
road.
Make sure that you leave the cache upsidedown with the
'force' securely engaged.
