Geocache Description:

This cache is in easy reach from the M25 Junction 29. Reccomended parking before 1730 are at N51.33.662 E000.23.589 Follow the brown and white duckies to the reserve.

The cache is in a standard tupperware sandwich box. Hidden in the Dunton Plotlands, part of Langdon Nature Reserve, very close to the fantastic visitor centre that is well worth a look around. The Reserve is Essex Wildlife Trusts largest inland nature reserve, covering 460 acres. It boasts sixty species of birds, thirty species of butterfly and a mass of plants. The plotlands at Dunton used to be home to hundreds of bugalows and chalets built at the turn of the 19th Century and the 1940's. Used as holiday homes and weekend retreats the area became more permanent during the Second World War as people evacuated from London. The nickname for the estate became Gumboot Hill and after the war the Billericay Urban District Council could not cope. The birth of the Basildon Development Corporation came into being and afterwards BASILDON. The last plots were compulsary purchased in the early 1980's.
The remenants of the plotlands were bought by the Essex Wildlife trust in 1989 and have restored plotlands no 3 'The Haven' and have it as a museum which is open between April and September. (More info at visitors centre)
