Forgotten Treasure Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rana Pirica: Greetings from Geocaching.com

It looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While we feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from hiding new geocaches around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Therefore we are archiving this cache so that someone else can place a cache in the area and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. If you haven't done so already, please pick up any remaining cache pieces as soon as possible.

If you are in the process of replacing or repairing your cache please e-mail me in response to this archival, and I will assist you in getting your cache re-listed if possible.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and look forward to seeing your caches up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

Fifteen men on the dead man's chest
Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!

Ahoy, me heartys!

Long before the rule o’ natives and e’en longer before the civilization o’ white man, rotten, filthy pirates sailed these seas. Aye, pirates up from the beautiful, blue Caribbean. Them mongrels traveled up and down the Mighty Miss lootin and pillagin as they went. One dared not cross the path o’ any vessel in those dark days, lest ways ye life be forfeit and no mercy spared durin ye keelhaulin trip to Davy Jones’ Locker.

A terrible, unruly bunch, those scallywags. They be stealin and lootin, fightin and drinkin... with allegiance naught e’en from one longbeard to the next. Loyalty held no meanin, and words…well they fell lost and forgotten soon as they be spoke. Those pirates knew only the language o’ self.

Turns out, howe’er, the mind wasn't so good either on them thar heartys. For much o’ the gold, silver and jewels they be gatherin, they stored and hid in banks along the river. Tagged em with treasure maps they did and forged off on yet another grand, swashbucklin adventure, whilst previous treasures fell lost at sea.

Well the rule o’ the unruly along these parts is long since o’er, and shiver me timbers, but modern day pirates have uncovered one such hidden treasure near da banks o’ Gavins Point. Cap'n Jolly and his mates discovered a map in a bottle along the seas o’ Lewis and Clark. That map be leadin to this buried booty o’ golds and jewels, which they now share with ye.

**************

Yo, ho, ho… least ways one jigger too many o’ rum for me this night, eh matey? Aye, dat could be, but have fun with it anyway.

For us, we come by sea, and for ye we recommend the same - just drop anchor off Rocky beach and row (or wade) ashore. Howe’er, all ye land pirates can access as well, just follow the shore west from Gavin's Point dock.

Use the co-ords to discover the hidden map which is a short search away from the hidden treasure. Other than ye GPS, a keen eye, and an open mind fer cachin fun... no special tools necessary.

Pirate garb optional, but recommended, especially with children. Hey, it doesn’t take much to wrap a bandana around em and they'll love it and remember it!
