A baía a Sul da Praia
dos Coxos, em Ribamar, Ericeira, foi há muito descoberta e
eleita pelos amantes do surf como um dos melhores spots do
estilo na Europa. Se há cerca de 30 anos, quando estas ondas
foram rasgadas pela primeira vez por alguns surfistas
estrangeiros, poucos surfistas existiam em Portugal, hoje o
panorama é bem diferente e são inúmeros os spots nacionais que
atraem grande número de praticantes desta
modalidade.
Nesta mesma
região existe um outro importante spot, a Praia da Ribeira d’Ilhas,
que ganhou fama internacional devido às suas excepcionais
características e porque, desde 1985, é local de uma etapa do
campeonato mundial de surf - World Qualifying Series
(WQS).

- A Onda Mágica
Uma das
direitas mais lendárias da Europa, que rebenta numa pequena baía. O
melhor swell é o de Norte/Noroeste, à maré baixa, meia-maré. Quebra
sobre um fundo de reef afiado e com ouriços. Quando está mesmo
grande as correntes são muito fortes. A onda muda conforme a
direcção e o tamanho do swell, mas nos dias grandes não perdoa; é
mesmo muito potente. A remada para o outside é longa e dura,
leva-se muito na cabeça. Surfadas inesquecíveis em dias
bons.

Esta cache
pretende dar a conhecer este magnífico local da nossa costa
atlântica e, ao mesmo tempo, constituir-se como mais um ponto de
paragem no percurso pedonal entre a Praia da Ribeira de Ilhas e a
Praia de S. Lourenço, ao longo do qual coloquei 4
caches.
A cache, uma
caixa de tamanho regular, está escondida muito perto do limite da
arriba, sob uma rocha, pelo que será necessário ter algum cuidado
com as crianças.
Com alguma
sorte, poderão observar alguns surfistas em acção, durante a vossa
visita.
The
bay south of the Coxos beach in Ribamar has long been elected
by surfing buffs as one of the best surfing spots of the type
in Europe. Thirty years ago, these waves were torn apart by
foreign surfers and there were few Portuguese surfers about.
Today, the national surfing panorama is quite different and
spots such as these attract hordes of surfers.
In the area,
there is another important surfing spot, the Ribeira d’Ilhas Beach.
This surfing spot has gained international recognition since it
hosts a leg of the world surfing championship; the World Qualifying
Series (WQS).

- The Magic Wave
One of the
Europe’s most legendary rights, located in a small bay. Swell come
from deep water and unload on a short reef bottom. It’s best in
North-NW swell, from low to mid tide, but when it is big currents
can be heavy. Waves change according to swell direction and size,
but are unforgiving, powerful and humbling on Big Days.

cache:
This cache will
introduce you to this
magnificent
location on the Atlantic coast. At the same time, it constitutes a
stoppage point along the trail between the Ribeira d’ Ilhas and S.
Lourenço Beaches where I have placed four caches.
This cache, a
regular box, is hidden very close to the limit of the cliff, under
a rock, so it will be necessary to take some care with the
children.
With some luck
you will see surfers in the thick of it.
