Geocache Description:

This beautiful high-meadow reservoir sits at about 9400' elevation. Well worth the mile hike. Constructed in 1958, this is now quite a fishing destination. The place was very busy the Saturday afternoon we visited - only overflow parking at the trailhead lot!

This film-canister metal tin cache (between small and regular sized) is about 0.1 mi from the water.

To get there:

Turn off SR 126 at the sign to San Pedro Wilderness/San Gregorio Lake (N35°59.935' W106°50.402'). Drive up this road about 2¾ miles (Forest Road 70 at the split) to the parking lot (has restrooms). Take Trail 51 from parking lot until you see the lake (after all, that's why you're here, right?). The sign says this is a ¾ mile hike, but we tracked it at about 0.9 mile. You'll gradually climb about 200' before dropping down a bit to the lake.

After enjoying the view, follow the right fork around the lake to the fire pit waypoint (N36°02.358' W106°50.748'). Here you'll find a game trail leading into the trees. The cache is about 300' in, then 50' from game trail.

Enjoy!
