Geocache Description:

On the shore of the Neuse River. Basic plastic container, may be camouflaged. Usually lots of nearby parking... except on holiday weekends. Walk around, enjoy the town!

Put on your suit of armor and grab your (metaphorical) sword! You are on a Dragon Quest in the town of Oriental, NC. Oriental is a quirky little town near the mouth of the Neuse River… and the self-proclaimed "Sailing Capitol of North Carolina". But… more importantly… Oriental is the celebrated home of the extremely rare Draco Guardianis Carolinus (North Carolina Dragon). The matriarch of Oriental’s dragon clan makes a BIG appearance each New Year’s Eve for Oriental’s annual Dragon Dance… but is rarely seen "in person" otherwise. You CAN, however, visit several of her nesting sites and usually catch a glimpse of a juvenile dragon as you walk around the beautiful Oriental Waterfront.

This geocache is near one dragon nesting site. This is a single location cache... you can cache and dash if you like... however, other nests (and a scenic walk) can be found by following these coordinates:

N 35’01.510
W076’41.73 You can usually spot a juvenile dragon near this nest

N 35’01.474
W 076’41.518 Sit and watch the river and boats float by from here

There are a total of FIVE known dragon nesting sites in Oriental… can you find them all?

REMEMBER… the North Carolina Dragon EXTREMELY endangered so you must hunt this dragon with your camera only! DO NOT DISTURB!

NOTE: This cache may be temporarily removed for safety if a high storm surge is predicted.
