When Nolin Lake was impounded it formed this large island. There
was a farm once located in the middle of this island. When I was a
teenager going to my parents cabin nearby, I used to hike out to
this island. There used to be an old roadbed that leads up to where
the farm used to be. I am sure the field that I used to hike out to
is long overgrown now. Back in the early seventies the Kentucky
State Parks looked over this island as a possible place to put a
lodge for a state park but later was offered the site at Briar
Creek by the Army Corps of Engineers.
You used to be able to cut through the small gap to and from the
Moutardier Marina. The Corps actually bulldozed dirt into the gap
at one time and made a land bridge again, but it eroded away and
now it is an island again.
You will need a boat to do this cache unless you do this cache
in the winter when the water level drops 25 feet. It would still
take a good little hike from the Moutardier Marina.
