Geocache Description:

Cache is a 50 caliber ammo can located on the site of the BlackLick Creek Watershed Association Yellowcreek Restoration project.

The cache can be found with just a short ramble past several man made ponds created as part of the Yellowcreek Restoration Project in partnership with many services and programs. (visit link) When we first started visiting the area a few years ago the ponds had all the symptoms of mine damage. The water was orangey yellow with a sulphury smell. On our most recent trips we’ve really found a big change. The ponds are looking alive and healthy and a large portion of the creek now supports fish. We saw a family of ducks on one of the ponds and a very contented looking little muskrat in another.
We all complain about the mine damage and here are groups and services working to make a difference. Let’s celebrate their efforts.
Remember this is state gameland and you’ll need to wear the required amount of orange during the hunting seasons.
Parking along busy South 6th Street extension is not recommended. Please park safely at the gate. N40 34.058 W079 07.598
