This cache brings you to Fetternear Estate, a beautiful deciduous woodland where the remains of Fetternear House and Bishop's Palace can be found. This was once the country seat of the Bishops of Aberdeen. The house was destroyed by an accidental fire in the 1920's. A maid had apparently put hot ashes in a wooden bucket where the coals later ignited. Everything was lost, including things once owned by Mary Queen of Scots. The Estate lies between Kemnay and Burnhervie.
The shortest walk is to park at The Shakkin Briggie and walk back up the tar road to Whitehaugh Cottage (a sign says honey for sale). You will see a gate within the cottage grounds which says Fetternear Estate. This is the start of your walk. Please don't park at the cottage. A longer walk would be from Kemnay at the estate entrance, and there is in fact a circular route that can be walked. The Estate owners David and Noelle Fyffe, live on the Estate where they have the Netherton Business Centre. They kindly let me set a cache here. They are keen to hear reports of wildlife, especially any owls or red squirrels which they are trying to encourage. It is a very popular place for walking and cycling. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE BUSINESS CARDS IN CACHES. If any are found please remove and destroy...thank you :) An avenue of trees leading to Fetternear house, with Dylandog....
