This cache located on the Beaver Island Trail in Saint Cloud. A trailhead access waypoint is listed below.
In 1856, five Benedictine monks traveled from Saint Vincent Abbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to Central MN in hopes of establishing a presence on this frontier. While gone from the river, one hundred and fifty years later their influence is still evident.
Saint John's Abbey and University, now located 15 miles west of here in Collegeville, is known world-wide. Saint John's Abbey University, Prep School and Lit Press have helped shape this area since the 1850's. Things could have easily been much different. Saint John's of Collegeville may have been Saint Louis of Lower Town.
It a beautiful area to walk, bike, or just watch the river flow. It's a great area for birding, too.
