I have always been a fan of street art. Sometimes it's legal,
sometimes it's not. Do you ever find yourself walking alleys
looking for vandalism? When parked at a train crossing, do you find
yourself admiring the artwork from a "big" city roll by? I'm sure
the railroad companies are plenty angry and the police are getting
tired of investigating it. This kind of underground culture is all
around us and questionably entertaining if you are willing to look
for it.
One of these graphitti battlegrounds that is getting a lot of
attention lately is the alley that runs between/parallel to St. Joe
and Main downtown. In the 1990s, the city had a tough time keeping
it under control. Most of what I can remember was just bold
statements written in Krylon. It was interesting, but not real art.
Sometime in the last couple of years real "art" started to appear
in the alley instead. It's hand painted instead of spray painted
and nobody is removing it. The collection is quite impressive and
growing.
The cache is a micro. Since this is an urban alleyway full of
utilties and has poor signal reception, I am including a picture
showing the location so there is absolutely no doubt where it is.
It's a magnetic key box on the underside of this rain downspout.
There are no electrical wires within 5 ft of the cache.
When hunting and admiring the artwork, be sure to watch for cars
using the alley and give them room to pass. Non-cachers will be
about so use stealth when rehiding the cache. Some art may be
unsuitable for children. Somebody is censoring adult images, but be
aware that something adult orientated may be present before it has
been take care of. Personally I think the hand over the kids eyes
works the best if you see something you don't approve of.
Good luck and enjoy the art!
