Geocache Description:

A small ammo box located near the Clubhouse Lake Campground, near Marcell.

Clubhouse Lake campground has been a favorite of our family for years. No electricity, no playground equipment, just a fishing pier, swimming beach, and two wells to pump your own water. There are some good hiking trails also. The fishing is fun for the kids, but not a lot of trophies. That has been our experience anyway. The day we placed the cache we were reeling in sunnies steady on the far side of the lake, and the kids were reeling in panfish, bass, and northerns from the pier. Our youngest team member actually was reeling a bluegill in when a northern ate the panfish right off of the hook! We have spent many Independence Day holidays at this campground. Instead of fighting traffic and people to see firework displays in town, we often retreat to this campground and troll around the lake on the 4th, watching cabin owners shoot their stuff off from the docks. Horseshoe pits are also at the campground, but you need to bring your own hardware. Along one of these trails is where our teen team member Patrick placed his first cache. It's an ammo can with all of the regular goodies, but the scenic hike is the best treasure of all! There is visitor parking at the campground near N47* 36.623 W093* 34.516. Another option would be to visit our nearby cache at the boat landing and either walk the trail along the shoreline right to the cache, or you can even boat to within 20 feet of the cache!
