Having grown up only a mile down the road, the Corporation has spent lots of time over the years at "The Lake." Much has changed over the years, but this is still very familiar and favored ground.
This cache is placed in Morton's most well known attraction, Roosevelt State Park. Situated in the approximate center of the State of Mississippi, this quiet respite is only about a 30 minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Metro-Jackson. The site of the MSGA Summer Bash 2006 (GCW1V3), this park has lots to offer for everyone.
This Corportation cache will give you an idea of the many places to stay at Roosevelt.
Your normal ammo container hidden within the woods of Roosevelt State Park in Morton. Since Roosevelt offers many options for lodging, it is only appropriate that it should be a Resort for Travel Bugs as well. There are several hiking trails in the park. This cache is located on one of these trails within walking distance of two main lodging options offered by the park: the Motel and the cabins. This trail may be accessed from two trailheads: 1)N32 19.072 W89 40.496 or 2) N32 18.822 W89 40.460.
Roosevelt Lodging is Cabins. Roosevelt features 15 cabins furnished with bed and bath linens and basic kitchen equipment, all affording beautiful views of the lake. All cabins are air-conditioned and heated, feature screened-in porches, and accommodate four to twelve people. Reservations are required.
Roosevelt Lodging is Motel rooms. Roosevelt features a 20 unit Motel Lodge, one of which is handicap accessible. Each unit is furnished with bed and bath linens, basic kitchen equipment , TV and telephone.
Roosevelt Lodging is RVing. Roosevelt features 109 sites available for RV camping, featuring picnic tables, and grills. 28 sites include electrical and water hook-ups and 81 sites have electrical, water and sewer hook-ups. All of the RV pads are within easy access of a central sewage dumping station and a bathhouse with hot showers. A limited number of campsites are set aside for advance reservations. The remainder are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Roosevelt Lodging is Primitive Camping. A wooded area on the upper end of Shadow Lake is available for tent camping. Water is available in the area, and bathhouses featuring hot showers are located just across the dam from the primitive camping area.
Roosevelt Lodging is Group Camping. Roosevelt features group camping for up to 128 is offered in eight air-conditioned, dormitory style cabins accommodating 16 persons per cabin. The group camp features a separate dining room, meeting room, and a lakeside pavilion. Meals are served cafeteria-style in the dining hall. Campers must furnish their own linens, towels, pillow, soap, and other personal items. Reservations are required ( call 601-732-6316 for more information).
