Geocache Description:

A new spin on CITO, CITI Cache In "Trash" In

The theme of this cache is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle but this is also just a regular cache, please don’t think you need to stick to the theme to cache it.

This cache is a “test market” cache for an idea I had and if this one goes well I will place others like it around the area. Any feedback (good or bad) or ideas would be appreciated.

It is amazing how much gets put into landfills every day that can be reused or recycled. This cache is my small attempt to keep a few specific items out of the landfill.

I won’t preach the benefits of recycling to you, you either recycle or you don’t and what I say probably won’t change your mind.

Recycle – Drop off your trash listed below here and I will see to it they get recycled.

- Rechargeable Batteries – You use these every day of your life and even though they are rechargeable they eventually they become un-usable and are thrown away. While they may no longer power your gear they are still full of chemicals. Despite the fact landfills are well contained these days, why throw them away if they can be recycled.
- Alkaline batteries - I don't currently know of not for charge recycler of these but am searching, put them in and I will hold them until I find a free recycler. If you have any leads please let me know.
- Cell phones and accessories – Cell phones and their batteries can also be recycled.
- Ink Jet Cartridges – That’s right even ink jet cartridges can be recycled.

Reuse - Well believe it or not the cache container itself is a reused ammo can.

- Cell phone accessories – Do you have any working cell phone accessories that you no longer use? Chargers etc. Why not stick a piece of tape saying what brand and model cell phone it came from and throw it in the cache. Maybe another cacher might just be able to use your trash. Nobody really wants to reuse your ear piece so lets skip those.
- Ink Jet Cartridges - Can sometimes be reused. If you drop one in the cache I will recycle it but why not check this out on your own. I will not endorse any specific vendors here but look on line and you can find refurbished ink jet cartridges at lower costs than new ones. Most of these places will also give you $ credit off of your next order for cartridges you return to them. Even if you don’t care a bit about environmentalism who doesn’t like to save a few bucks?

*Notes
– Please no “wet” batteries such as a car battery. You would be best served returning this to an auto parts vendor.
- Please refrain from putting leaking batteries into the cache.
- If your cell phone has one you will want to remove your SIM card as you can use that again in another cell phone, so you don’t have to buy another.
- All information on the phone is removed by recycling process so I wouldn’t consider this an issue, but if it worries you spend a few minutes to clear out your messages and address book before throwing it in.

This cache is placed on the property of the rest area on I71/75 South in Kentucky between Mt Zion 178 and Richwood 175 exits.

there are entrances to the area without bushwacking.

Current inventory of items for reuse:
3 - Nokia APC7U wall chargers
1 - Nokia APC12U wall charger

Items collected for recycling to date:
2 - AA alkaline battery's
