Geocache Description:

Another cache brought to you by a member of the
This is another cache in the USCGA League of Extraordinary Geocachers (L.E.G.) Challenge.

This cache is going to take you through many places throughout Spartanburg County, the gem of the Upstate.
We are highlighting 7 landmark locations, ones in which we hope that you will return to again and again.

This cache was at one time the Spartanburg county part of the L.E.G. Challenge sponsored by the Upstate South Carolina Geocachers Association (USCGA). We'd like to thank all of those who both helped with and/or met the challenge!

To locate this cache, you must replace the letters in the following set of coordinates with the correct numbers found on your nostalgic journey through Spartanburg County in the Upstate.

N 34° 5A. B6E

W 0D1° 5F. 5C6

Your journey will begin at these coordinates:

N 34° 49.599

W 081° 57.466

Here you will find an area rich in it’s history and beauty. This is the location of Walnut Grove Plantation, which is on land granted in 1763 by King George III to Charles Moore when the area was little more than backcountry.
At the entrance gate you will see a sign.

What year was this home built? Add the first and forth numbers together and substitute for “A.”

Next you will travel to another historic, and locally revered building:

N 34° 50.119

W 081° 59.688

Just behind and to the left of this parking area lies a two-story gray building once known as “Creative Arts Studios.” This is the rehearsal and recording studio owned by members of Spartanburg’s own Marshall Tucker Band. It was behind these doors that many of the bands most loved songs were written and recorded. It was also common to get visits from other Southern rock legends, who lent their time and talents to the bands musical projects.
As you look around, how many church steeples do you see?
Multiply this number by two, and enter that number into “B.”

Feeling nostalgic still? Then travel with us here:

N 34° 56.221

W 081° 54.780

At this location lies the oldest minor league baseball park in the country. While many will remember it's days as the home field of the Spartanburg Phillies in their long run from 1971-1996, many others visit it weekly as the proud and respected home of both the USC-Spartanburg and Wofford College baseball teams.
While parked at this location, what numbers represent the deepest part of center field, nearest the flagpole? Take the last digit of this number, double it, and then add 1.
This number becomes “C.”

Are you ready for a little rest? Then stroll through here:

N 34° 56.991

W 081° 55.724

You are in the shadows of the tallest building in Spartanburg. As you walk through this plaza, you will encounter one of many beautiful water features in the downtown area.
At this location, how many fountain overflows are there total?
Take the second digit of this number and enter into “D.”

If the spirit of competition is in the air, then you may want to visit here:

N 34° 57.775

W 081° 55.899

Many will recognize this location as the summer home of the Carolina Panthers NFL football team. All training camp practices are held here and are open to the public. During training camp, the Panthers will normally practice twice a day, but you may need to check the schedule for crowd activity.
At this location is a pair of informational signs.
How many times do you see the word “no” in these signs?
(Since there is construction here, you will need to solve this puzzle for this number instead: The number you need is the square root of the highest single-digit number)
This number is substituted for “E.”

The next location is probably not as well known locally, but very much so globally:

N 34° 58.236

W 081° 59.721

This is a rare glimpse into the past, brought to us by a German machinery company that has operated a plant in Spartanburg since 1965, and is a testament to the friendship between Germany and the United States.
While standing in front of this monument, how many words are in the quote on the left plaque?
This becomes your final piece of the puzzle to place in “F.”

Now that you have completed all of the required stages and built your coordinates, it is time to go looking for a micro.
This micro location isn’t like most that you’ll ever encounter. As a matter of fact, it is rather unique in that it can be seen for miles around.
It is legendary, and we trust that you will find it worthy of your time and perserverence.
