This cache has been archived.

Spoon!: Well, thanks again to all who came to lend a hand in cleaning up the Tubs a little! I hope someone will schedule a CITO here again next year - maybe I'll come back from Seattle to help out! [:D]

Geocache Description:

A small-scale CITO event at Seven Tubs Nature Area. This is a beautiful area, with a very unusual geological formation. Unfortunately, many visitors in the Summer are less than careful about cleaning up their bottles, food wrappers, etc.

I hope to see a lot of NEPA cachers come out to help clean up this unique natural wonder!

The CITO

Come on out to Seven Tubs and grab a bag of trash as you try for one, two, or three of the local caches. I am calling this small-scale because there are some areas with bigger items that need to be removed that will be beyond the scope of this particular event. I'm hoping that next year, with more time to plan, an event can be organized where the County and PennDOT are involved and the large items can be tackled then.

We will start around 9:00 AM. Everyone can meet for lunch around Noon at the posted coordinates. Everyone is asked to bring their own food, this is a low-key event! (I will be bringing a big cooler full of ice and bottled water. If anyone wants to store anything in the cooler until lunchtime, there should be plenty of room. I'll also be bringing a small Weber grill, hot dogs, rolls, ketchup, mustard, and relish).

I picked up a box of gloves, vests, and trash bags from PennDOT last week. So, there should be enough for about 25 people. I will also have a box of vinyl gloves if anyone wants to use them. I hope we can enjoy a morning of higher difficulty caches, beautify the area, eat, and share some Geo-stories!

Check out Seven Tubs Nature Area for some info on this gorgeous area.

The Caching

Afterwards, there are many caches you have not yet found in all directions for whatever your taste may be. There are challenging caches in the immediate area:

For those of you who have wanted some company to attempt these caches, here is your chance. These caches will all require a hike of at LEAST 2 miles! If you would like to try 3xR 1xL 1xR, you may want to park at the coordinates posted on that page to save yourself some hiking. You could CITO there and then drive to the posted coordinates for the event to dump your trash and have some lunch!

The Camping

Camping is available at nearby Frances Slocum State Park. Frances Slocum, 12 mi away, also has some great caches!

Bonus points for anyone who can say the event name seven times fast!

I was not able to secure a Group Camping site for such a low number of campers. So, we should all try to reserve sites on Hemlock Hill (PDF download) in Frances Slocum (the non-electric sites are more tent-friendly). So far we have campers on sites 50, 67, 69, and 72. Others are still available nearby, and there are pet-friendly sites in this loop if anyone is bringing a Geopup. You can use the State Park telephone (1-888-PA-PARKS) or internet reservation systems. Drop me a note if you have trouble reserving a site, and I'll be glad to help!
