Geocache Description:

***PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED CANOEIST AND WILDERNESS TRIPPER***

The first in a series of rugged canoe tripping adventures.

This cache requires much stamina and wilderness tripping experience but the scenery is well worth it.I dragged my father down the Shawmere River in June of 2006. This is an area we used to visit often but never done the river.

There are 3 ways to get to this cache:

1. Fly in with Ivanhoe Air to Lemoine Lake, stay at one of their cottages and canoe upstream. There will be a couple of portages required but round trip back to Lemoine can be done in a day

2. Take the VIA train from Foleyet, or Gogama or even Sudbury, to Shawmere. They will let you off at the bridge. You will then have 29 km of river and lake travel (with a half-dozen portages) to get to Cooper Falls. We made it from Cooper Falls to the tracks in one very long day going downstream. Plan to camp overnight on Lemoine Lake where the river flows to Shawmere Lake.

3. You can canoe from Shawmere River where it meets Hwy 101 (check out another cache here too) and follow it to the tracks or all the way back to Foleyet. This is the trip we did to hide the cache. It takes 6 days to complete and it is very difficult with class 2 and class 3 rapids, blazing new portage trails, creating your own campsites, and innumberable beaver dams, rock gardens, etc. This trip should be done in high water. We did it in mid June and the water was too low.

The adventure you will experience on this cache will be life-changing. We saw moose only 30 yards from our tent one morning.

The contents of the cache include wilderness survival items such as:
Compass
Candle
Poncho
Matches
and of course Toilet Paper

The difficulty of this cache is getting there. It is not meant to be difficult to find. Refer to the attached pictures for clues.
