Geocache Description:

The Thompson Falls Dam View cache is located in beautiful Thompson Falls Montana.

After purchasing property in Thompson Falls Montana I noticed there was only one cache in this beautiful area.

The cache is located on Thompson Island which is a very short and easy walk over a neat old bridge. The trail is very easy flat and well groomed. Very suitable for the young and old.

The hydroelectric power dam this cache is placed by was built in 1913 and took 5 years to complete. The mighty Clarks Fork river was a challenge for the nearly 400 workers who took on this incredibly daunting project. This dam is an amazing 1000 feet long while a shorter dam just down stream is 450 feet long. The dam is largely built out of concrete yet a lumber mill had to be built to meet the demand for lumber to provide for the cribbing and concrete form making. This mill provided nearly 60,000 board feet of lumber a day to the workers on the dam.

This is a beautiful spot, enjoy the island. Osprey can be viewed during certain times of the year. There are several areas one can go to enjoy the views of the dam and the flora of the area. Picnic tables are available.

Also, while in town stop by one of the many local eateries and little shops. You will be glad you did.
