in our disclaimer.
Boardman Bear has a lovely home
by a lake, but he sometimes gets lonely. Come visit him and
see his home! If you do, he'll share some little things with
you. If the time is right, he'll show you the real
treasure - fresh huckleberries! Yum! (FTF rights are up
for grabs since this is a new cache in a new place!)
For the kids:
Boardman Bear is a little shy, so he doesn't
want to tell everyone exactly where he lives. But because
you're a cacher, and he thinks cachers are special, you're
invited to visit his favorite lake, near where he
lives.
Of course, Boardman Bear lives near Boardman
Lake, and loves to dine on the local blueberries when they are in
season, usually in late August or early September. There are some
very close to his home. Make sure you visit with your big people,
and stay on the trail at ALL times -- it's not polite to trample
through Boardman Bear's home and mess things up. When you get close
(30 or 40 feet away) to his cache, you may go off trail to look for
it, but make sure your big people are still with you. Please hide
Boardman Bear's Cache as well as you found it so other cachers can
have as much fun finding it as you did. And enjoy the berries . . .
yummm!
For the adults:
This is a fairly straight forward cache, with a
short and easy .8 mile hike, a lovely lake destination, and a
cache difficulty (and contents) just fine for 7-14 year olds -
or committed geocachers of any age :). Swimming,
huckleberries, and the gorgeous mountain views are all
bonuses.
Take Hwy 92 into Granite Falls, where you will find the Mountain
Loop Hwy. Follow it a few miles east past the Verlot ranger station
to the turnoff to Boardman Lake at N48° 04.320 / W121° 42.190.
Follow that road to the well-marked trailhead (with parking) at
N48° 02.025 / W121° 41.148.
IMPORTANT: Please follow the trail up, and then down towards
Boardman Lake. When you get to the sign the shows Toilets and
Camping to the left, you turn right and follow the (unsigned) trail
to Island Lake, taking the upper trail which is initially fairly
level. Start climbing up a trail at the coords given below. There
is trail to within 40' +/- of the cache, which is an ammo can.
There is no digging needed -- a touch should be all that is needed
to discover the cache's home. Please re-hide the cache carefully,
and watch your little ones at all times, as you would in any
outdoor situation.
Although Boardman Lake is pretty in the winter and can be a fun
snowshoe trip, this cache is not recommended during that time of
year as it will be under snow, along with all good hibernating
bears.
Congratulations to Harriet the Spy on her
FTF!
Finally, please let me know if there are problems with either the
cache or its coordinates. Most importantly, have fun!
