Bernt Ronning, a Norwegian homesteader, started his garden in 1910. You can read more about the gardens at the link above, or pick up a little brochure at the "Scarlet Ibis" in Holberg (great food!). An easy walk, starting at the parking lot, of about 1/2 mile east will get you to the gardens. Please remember that the garden is private property which the current owners generously allow the public to access at any time, for the joy of sharing this historic site. It is especially lovely in the Spring when the daffodils are in bloom. Please respect the privacy of their cottage. Another interesting site nearby is a cemetery, about a 1/2 mile walk west from the parking lot (in other words, in the opposite direction from the entrance to the garden.) If you like a puzzle, find the cache by solving this: The coordinates listed above get you to the parking lot at Ronning's Garden. Once there you will need to walk to the garden to find NUMBERS imprinted on a piece of old machinery found in the gardens: G.M. xxxxxxx X xxx. You will not need to leave the garden path to find the machinery. You will need these numbers to calculate the final coordinates. Cache coordinates are at the following: 50. AB.CDB 128.EB.FGA A= 2nd number minus the 6th number. B= 2nd number minus the 1st number minus the 3rd number. C= 3rd number minus the 6th number. D= 3rd number minus the 1st number. E= 4th number minus the 5th number. F= 8th number plus the 9th number. G= 9th number plus 10th number, divided by the 4th number. The actual cache is a white plastic container, tucked in a typical hidey-hole. I've given this cache a '2' for difficulty. The only difficult part is actually getting all the way out to Ronning's Garden. Due to overstory of trees, coordinates were bouncing around a bit(plus or minus 25 ft.) If you don't like to solve the puzzle, look at the hint instead.
