Damn
Freddo’s Up the Numbered Creek cache series.
Our
forefathers could be pretty boring people when they really tried.
Having named the things they found after themselves, their wives,
their children, their patrons, their monarchs, feast days and the
remaining days of the week, they then started on the look of the
natural features. Brown Hill,
Green Hill, Black
Hill, Red Hill, Mount
Lofty. If all else failed they then fell back to
numbers.
Originally know as Hallett's Rivulet, Second Creek flows through
Heathpool, Kensington and St Peters. Second Creek has several
caches near its banks, including Radars of the Cache at the
headwaters above Slape’s Gully and I've Got a Bad Feeling About
this... at the Torrens confluence.
Burnside, is an amalgation of the Scottish word for creek, Burn
and side because of the original property's location on the side of
Second Creek. Amazing. I always thought this suburb was named
because it was near the burnt side of Mount Osmond.
The waters of Second creek were used for production of Cooper’s
Sparkling Ale, which is the premier beer in this town. Beyond
Leabrook Second Creek continues across Norwood, staying largely
channelled underground. This cache is located near one of the few
open creek runs in the lower stretch, although it really is just a
culvert at this stage.
Australians seem to be in need of some more creative natural
feature naming. In your logs we would ask you to come up with an
improved name for the creek.
