Geocache Description:

Grassy, gravel roads, Picnic Area, (Seasonal) Bathrooms, Handicap Access

This is Boo's first cache located inside the Lackawanna State Forest picnic area, with DCNR permission.

This cache has been replaced with a new container, and has a new contract with DCNR. :) There were some problems with DCNR area cleanups, muggles and the container last year, but this new container is much better for this area.

Cache Details: This cache has been changed to a small container with a modified log. It can fit some small objects to trade.

May 3 -took out of Premium Member status. :)

The picnic area itself is surrounded by the stunning State Game Land (Lackawanna State Forest) and there is hunting around the area, but this picnic area is in a Protected Area.

Stay Safe during Hunting Seasons and Wear Orange!

There are plenty of picnic tables all around the area, with some right next to a very cool creek - Spring Run - on one side. Grills are available too, just bring charcoal.

Observe all Fire laws and burn bans!

It has seasonal bathrooms (handicap access) and a fresh water well!

The area has packed gravel roads, and a pretty flat somewhat level grassy terrain. There are a few chuckholes, and it *could* be muddy depending on the rainfall, this is the reason for the 1.5 rating.

Dogs

GeoDogs are most welcome! In the past, the teams for the Iditerod run the snow-sledding-dogs here in winter.

Please remember the leash law - dogs are required to be on a 6 foot leash.

Winter:

While you can hunt this cache in winter, be aware that the roads may *NOT* be ok to drive on in snow, they are not maintained in winter. If you do come in winter and enjoy snowmobiling, they do allow snowmobiles on very specifically marked trails.

Hiking:

There is plenty of hiking available on well- marked trails.

Ticks and Skeeters & Gypsy Moths, Oh my! Some years have been particularly heavy with ticks. I did not see any on me in the picnic area last year and hopefully this year will be better than last. However, the skeeters are HUGE and hungry! So please remember the bug spray if you come in skeeter months. I'm also hoping that this year the horrid Gypsy Moth caterpillars won't attack again. They do so much damage. Sometimes, snakes have been found in this area, it's always best to be careful!
