Geocache Description:

Along footpath on river bank

NB. FROM MAY 07 to JULY 08 THE OLD RAILWAY LINE IS BEING CONVERTED TO THE GUIDED BUS ROUTE INTO CAMBRIDGE AND THEREFORE FULL ACCESS ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE ROADWAY MAY BE RESTRICTED AT TIMES, ALTHOUGH WE WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE CROSSABLE AT POINTS WHERE THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH CROSSES.

This is one in a series of caches, each of which will yield clues, to the final one “LAST DOSE”. Each cache will give you a number that corresponds to the letters a~j which in turn will give you the co-ordinates for this. It can be accessed via the Fenstanton Footpaths, a copy of the map can be purchased from a number of local outlets especially the Post Office in Fenstanton (located near the clock tower). This costs 30p and is not necessary in order to find any of the caches but might add to the enjoyment of the walks The map can also be obtained from the Norris Museum in St Ives in a pack with details of the other walks in the area.-

Parking in Chequer Street, Fenstanton close to either of the 2 green areas will be a good starting/finishing point for the reference caches. These can be done as 2 loops
Loop A. (2 miles) has –Permission Granted – Oyster Cacher – Clue on 2 – found along its way.
Loop B. (4.75 miles) has Moore of a view - Bridging the gap - Slip Slipping away – Ouse between the gates – Osier Bend – Fengate dozen. (not necessarily in that order)

Or strictly speaking between the gates! Go through a recently (2006) constructed kissing gate (Fenstanton are rightly proud of the state of their footpaths) and locate the cache. This is one of the nicest stretches of FP # 13. If you get to the next new gate you’ve gone too far! CONTENTS: Dog chews, highlighter pen, shell, red nose, pencil, pen, key ring, frog brooch, coin.

After the second gate the path moves alongside a field and after 100 yards a path to the left FP # 9 will take you back to Fen Lane and if you turn right and continue along it you will emerge into Fenstanton via Honey Hill.

This is the village from whence a John Howland left for America with the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620 and the current incumbent of the White House is a descendent of his as are many other famous American figures.
