A nice walk out to a cemetery in the woods.
The Hoffman Cemetery is deep in the woods off of route 24 between Schroon Lake and Olmstedville. The road out to the cemetery was once suitable for cars, but has degraded to a path, and for about half of the walk in, a streambed. There are the remains of a stone bridge that collapsed ages ago, crossed by a replacement bridge made of wood that is in the last stages of rotting itself (although it supported me on the day I walked out).
The cemetery is in the process of being reclaimed by the forest, but you can still find dozens of headstones dating back to the early 1800s, including some civil war veterans.
There are some truly massive white pines both along the walk in, and among the headstones.
The cache container is a camouflaged amm-can hidden some 75 feet to the SW of the cemetery.
