Boat Island is a large island on Eagle Lake. In the middle of the
northern half of the island is a lake. This cache is hidden on the
east side of Boat Island Lake.
Our family has had a cabin on Eagle Lake,
south of Vermillion Bay for years. Often in the summers we
take a boat ride to Boat Island. This island is special due to
its vast granite outcrops and the large lake at its center.
There is a somewhat blazed trail from a sheltered bay on the
island's east shore to the lake. The trail is marked with
orange and yellow flagging tape and rock cairns in the open
areas. Some of the trail is rough, overgrown and hard to find.
This cache is not for the faint hearted, though it should be
managable by adults, comfortable with minor bushwacking and a
few short scrambles up rocky areas. From landing your boat to
the cache and back should take about two hours. Never the
less, this is a wilderness cache and appropriate planning and
precaution should be taken. That said, the veiw of the island
lake and the accomplishment of the trek itself is well worth
the effort.
