Geocache Description:

Thames Path - Shiplake Lock

Shiplake lock is unusual because it is the only lock on the Thames that can be avoided without encountering a weir.

The lock was also the first lock on the Thames to have hydraulic power installed.  Previously in 1956, it had electro-mechanical power to open the lock gates, but this proved unsatisfactory and it was updated five years later.

Because I couldn't find a suitable place close to the lock to hold a proper cache container, I have had to place this a little way off the river.  Mill Lane is a fairly quiet place and it's also suitable for on road parking.  In fact you could probably make this a dash if you wanted to!  Distance from the lock to cache is about 200 yards.

You are looking for a camo snap-lock container, containing the log, pencil and a few swaps.  Please be careful when on site as you need to descend a fairly steep ditch, and there is a bog at the bottom... makes it more interesting eh?

Good luck!
