Geocache Description:

This cache sits near a scenic overlook of the Ouachita River off Hwy 270, near Pencil Bluff, between Mena and Mt. Ida. Please be sure to re-hide the cache appropriately so it does not end up disappearing.

This shouldn't be a difficult find. There is level 5 terrain here, but because I didn't want anyone to get killed in the process of accessing the cache, I opted for a more modest placement -- but beware that there's a very dangerous cliff nearby. I believe the GPS coords are pretty accurate, perhaps too accurate, otherwise I could have made this a higher difficulty, but since this is my first, I am being conservative. Enjoy the wonderful view!

The cache is housed in a camouflaged large-size ammo box. Please make sure to not damage the cache when you access it. It should be easy enough.

Initial contents include: log, several large seashells, Mardi Gras beads, Gold bond powder, first aid kit, stamp pad and stamps, pencils, pen, and some other odds and ends. No specific FTF prize other than the pride of being FTF. There is also a disposable camera in the cache. I'm asking that you take a picture of your group and leave the camera in the cache. At some point later I'll develop the film and post the images here.

Updated cache: old cache disappeared - resetting the cache with a larger box with all new stuff 10/2015

Why "End of the World?" - Two reasons: As you stand on this spot, you overlook a homestead that used to be owned by a fundamentalist Christian minister who was convinced that the year 2000 would bring about end of the world and/or Jesus' return. That didn't exactly happen. Second, the spot does kind of seem like the "end of the world" in a metaphorical sense, or ironically, the opposite. To me it symbolized that the "world" was here long before us, and will be here long after we humans are gone. We can choose to trash it or make it beautiful. I choose the latter and from this vantage point it's easy to appreciate the beauty the earth has to offer. I've made this the first in my "End of the World" series to point out, ironically, our view of the earth and our existence on it, ultimately is subjective, and nature will in all likelihood have the last word. So at the least, let's take some time and appreciate the beauty around us.

NOTE: When you approach the cache area, be aware of the traffic and the steep turns and do not slow down dramatically while on the highway (occasionally 18-wheelers fly by). There is a place to pull off the road at the top of the hill. The cache is hidden in an area near a very steep cliff. There are NO fences or guardrails to keep people from wandering/falling into danger. This is not a place where children should be wandering unless *very* closely supervised. While access to the cache may not involve traversing dangerous, steep territory, there are VERY steep, VERY dangerous cliffs in the area. Extreme caution should be used.
