Ravenscraig No More Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Graculus: This cache has been unavailable for a considerable period and the owner has not given any indication it is being replaced/repaired in the near future.

Rather than keep it temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it. If/when the cache is ever replaced I'll gladly un-archive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Guidelines: “As the cache owner, you are also responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time – normally a few weeks – in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive or transfer the listing.”

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

A short walk after parking just off a roundabout

The cache title should have been in the Proclaimers song Letter from America
The site of the former Ravenscraig Steelworks 1937 - 1992
Opened by Colvilles at a cost of £20,000,000, with 2 batteries of 35 coke ovens, a blast furnace and melting shop with 3 furnaces.
Work started on the Ravenscraig Steel Works in 1955. The works opened in 1957 and was expected to produce 400,000 tons of steel every year. The steel works supplied steel for the shipbuilding industry as well as making it possible to start car production in Scotland. They were an important asset for the Scottish economy.
The cache is located on the 2.3km road, Ravenscraig Parkway the 450-hectare site - the equivalent of 677 football pitches - surely you can find it in there.
